How the runs work
Casual basketball usually means pick-up: whoever shows up plays. With many people it is 3-on-3 on one basket and winners stay on; with enough people, full-court 5-on-5. You call your own fouls, fairly and without a referee.

Tip for beginners
If you haven't played in a while, pick a run for “all levels” and warm up well, especially ankles and knees. Indoors you need non-marking shoes.
